Privacy Policy

Crypto Fear & Greed is a lightweight app that shows the market sentiment index. We built it to be simple and respectful of your data.
What the app collects
The app does not require accounts, names, email addresses, or other personal information, and it does not ask you to type anything about yourself. It requests the current sentiment index from a public API over the internet.
The Android app also collects limited usage and crash information and receives remote app settings, as described below, to keep the app working and to understand how it is used.
Data stored on your device
To make the app feel fast, it saves the latest index value, recent history, widget settings, and refresh timing locally on your device. This data stays on your device and is not uploaded by the app.
Usage analytics and crash reports (Android)
The Android app uses Google's Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. They help us understand which features are used, whether data loads successfully, and why the app crashes, so we can fix problems and improve the app.
This information may include:
- Usage events, such as screens viewed, whether a data refresh succeeded or failed (with a technical reason), which chart range was loaded, whether ads were requested or shown, and how you answered the app's support and review prompts.
- App and device details, such as app version, operating system version, device model, language, and the store the app was installed from.
- Crash reports and diagnostics, such as the technical error and the state of the app when it failed.
- Identifiers created by Google for the app installation (such as a Firebase installation ID), and an approximate location (country or region) derived by Google from your IP address.
We do not collect your name, email address, account details, or anything you type, and we do not use this information to identify you. We do not sell it.
Remote configuration (Android)
The Android app uses Google's Firebase Remote Config. It lets us adjust app settings, such as how often ads and review prompts may appear and how long widgets stay unlocked, and switch features on or off without an app update. The app fetches these settings in the background and applies them the next time it starts.
To deliver the settings, the app sends Google its country, language, time zone, operating system version, app identifiers and SDK version, and a Firebase installation ID.
This information is not used for personalization, advertising, or to identify you, and it is not linked to your analytics choice. Remote configuration works regardless of that choice, because the app needs it to receive its settings.
Your choices and consent
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent in a form provided by Google when you first open it. Analytics and crash reporting start only if you consent. If you decline, no analytics or crash data is collected, and ads are shown without personalization.
In other regions, analytics and crash reporting are on by default, based on our legitimate interest in keeping the app reliable and improving it. You can switch them off at any time.
In either case, you can change your choice at any time with Privacy settings on the app's main screen. On Android, you can also reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalization in your device settings.
Remote configuration, described above, is not covered by this choice. It works regardless of your analytics choice because the app needs it to receive its settings.
Advertising
On Android, the app shows ads. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers (such as the Android advertising ID), IP address, and usage data to provide, measure, and secure ads. Where required, the ad consent form described above applies. We do not receive your personal data from AdMob.
Third-party services
The app interacts with these external services:
- Public Fear & Greed index API for sentiment data.
- Google AdMob (Android only) for advertising.
- Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Android only) for usage analytics and crash reports.
- Google Firebase Remote Config (Android only) for remote app settings.
- Google's user consent form (Android only) to collect your consent where the law requires it.
Google processes this information as our service provider and under its own terms. See Google's Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information. Google may process data in countries outside your own, using safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long data is kept
Crash reports are kept by Crashlytics for 90 days. Analytics data is kept for the retention period configured in our Firebase project, which is at most 14 months. Firebase installation IDs are kept until they are deleted at our request; Google removes them within 180 days after deletion. Data stored only on your device is removed when you uninstall the app.
Your rights and deletion requests
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask about the data we hold, to have it deleted, or to object to its use. Because the app has no accounts, we generally cannot link analytics data to a particular person. We will still answer any request as far as we can. Contact us using the details below.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. The analytics, crash reporting and remote configuration features are currently part of the Android app only. If we add them to other platforms, we will update this policy first.
